摘要：1388176 Silicon carbide whiskers LONZA Ltd 22 May 1972 [20 Aug 1971]24000/72 Heading C1A A method of making silicon carbide whiskers comprises spreadingon a substrate a layer of a mixture of natural, largely gengue-free graphite having carboncontent 80-98%, iron 0À2-5%, and a grain size 5-200 microns with a synthetic or naturalcarbonizable binder; the layer is allowed to dry and carbonize; a gaseous mixturecontaining carbon, hydrogen and halogen is simultaneously contacted at elevatedtemperature with the layer and with a powder containing silicon and substantially freefrom iron, silicon being thereby evaporated into the gas and the growth of silicon carbidewhiskers on the layer thereby caused.
