A vibration isolating mount, for apparatus such as a checkweigher required to be protected from low frequency vibrations of a supportingfoundation such as a factory floor, employs springs of the form shown in Fig. 2. A coilspring 1 when \"crippled\" into C-shape and stressed by a force tending to further distortthe C-shape has virtually zero stiffness and therefore can serve as a resonator with verylow (1 c/s) natural frequency. This is the basis for its use as a suppressor of low frequency(down to about 5 c/s) vibrations. The invention provides a vibration isolating system inwhich (Figs. 3 to 5, not shown) a plurality of such crippled springs are each fitted withknife edges 4 which engage V-blocks 6 mounted on supporting and supported members,lateral displacement of the supported member being restrained by resiliently mountedtie-rods (18). The system can be tuned by adjusting the position of the knife edges on thestraight terminal portions 3 of the springs. The knife edges may alternatively be on thesupported and supporting members and the V-blocks on the springs.
