Science and Religion
The relationship between religion and science has been a subject of study since classical antiquity, addressed by philosophers, scientists and others
Science is important to most people living in the modern world for a numbers of reasons. Here I just focus on two points. Firstly, science has not only improved people’s living standard, but also raised their understanding and promoted their spiritual and intellectual growth. Secondly, science offers us a brand new perspective to explore the world. For instance, the idea raised by Copernican about the Sun being the center of the cosmos and the Earth being one of the plants going around it challenges the reign of Pope Paul Ⅲ,which inspires people get out of bondage religion.
Does that mean science and religion are two extremes? You can either believe in one of them, right? In the light of the fact that they represent different ideas of social classes during the period of Renaissance, people at that time can only stick to one idea.
As for those misguided people who thought religion is an equivalent of superstition, I would like to say religion doesn’t equal superstition.
