Good afternoon! Ladies and gentleman!

Today, I‟ll talk about my teaching plan of the reading passage “Who Loves You the Best”, the first period.

At he beginning, let me introduce the teaching material to you. As we know, love is the eternal theme. Parents‟ love is the greatest, I think, and when we mention the parents‟ love, we always owe our thanks to our mother, but the writer Benjamin wrote this letter to thank his dad by the means of recalling what his father had done. Benjamin felt grateful for his father‟s great love who sometimes works too hard and feels too tired, but never says “no” to his child to express his love in his particular ways. So this is a key lesson reflecting the theme of father‟s love.

According to the newly English course standard of the senior high school: English course aims to develop the students‟ English knowledge, English skills, emotions and attitudes towards the certain phenomenon. So in this period, I set the following teaching goals:

Firstly, Students are required to understand the text with the help of the learning strategy while completing the planned reading tasks, and enhance their reading abilities.

Secondly, Students are expected to expand their vocabulary and improve their overall abilities.

Thirdly, by understanding the father‟s love, students will prompt their sense of responsibility, develop the sense of cooperation, and stimulate their creativity.

In general, it is important for students to understand the text clearly. Maybe it‟s a little bit difficult for students to express their own opinions boldly and actively, some students perhaps find it difficult to cooperate with others but I will do my best to encourage them to achieve these goals. I think the key to achieve the teaching objectives better, to stress the key points and break through the difficult points is to make use of the proper teaching methods. In my teaching, I will adopt the task-based approach and communicative approach, because they are the best teaching means to conduct the activities to provide the opportunities to complete the tasks in real situations in which Ss use language to achieve a specific outcome. So I arranged several activities for students to learn to cooperate actively and learn form each other, such as group-discussion, pair work and so on.

Meanwhile, I‟ll try to make good use of the multimedia equipments and all kinds of teaching means, it can mobilize the Ss‟ enthusiasm and creativity in learning English. Thus, the channel for students to learn and use English will be widen and students‟ self-confidence will be enhanced.

Next, let me explain my teaching procedures to you:

In order to realize the teaching process systematically, properly and efficiently, under the principle of “regard Ss as the corpus, the teacher inspires for predominance”, I divide the teaching process into four steps.

Step one: pre-reading activities

According to the New Curriculum Standard, we base our teaching on the familiar experiences that children have already had, so before reading the article, I will assign two tasks. Task1: a Survey

1. Free talk concerning the topic of love.

2. I assign a task of doing a survey by asking students the two questions “Who loves you the best?

Father of mother?” “Why do you think so?” Students may walk around the classroom and ask anyone to fill in the form. Two or three minutes later, I‟ll ask four of them to report to the whole class. During the process, I will write down the ways their parents express their love on the chalkboard.

This activity will help form a really good class atmosphere and get everybody involved in my class by doing the survey. In this way, all the students‟ cognitive will be stimulated and they will make a good preparation for the study. Task 2: Prediction

Teacher may conduct the activity as the following:

Now I‟d like you to read the first paragraph and the title “Who Loves You the Best” and ask them to discuss in pairs to predict what might be talked about in the article. Any answer is acceptable. After three minutes, I‟ll ask different pairs to summarize their answers and than report them to the class. For instance, the writer might be telling us that his Dad loves him very much and expressed his love in some different ways. Maybe the following part will deal with his father‟s different ways to show his love.

So in this way, student‟s predicting skills will be trained, their imagination will be enriched and by reading the first paragraph students will get a brief idea about the main points of this passage.

Step two: While-reading activities

After predicting the article, students will be eager to know what really happened in the article. So in this step, I designed three tasks for them to comprehend the text and develop their reading skills.

Task one is „listening and understanding the general structure‟. Here I design a listening comprehension exercise and I will distribute a paper to students on which I printed six sentences, four of which are related to the content. I will play the recording of the text and ask students to listen carefully and try to tick out the sentences corresponding with the passage. After completing the task, the teacher will ask students to find the original sentences in the article. And students will be easy to find them in the last paragraph, then teacher may help them to realize that the last paragraph is the conclusion of the whole passage.

In this way, students‟ listening ability will be improved ,they will understand the main content of the passage and their skills of independent thinking will be developed at the same time.

The second is the detailed reading, it‟s a task for students to go through the text and find the detailed information. According to the four sentences mentioned above, students need to find the supporting information of each sentence in the article. Students will conduct a free discussion for a few minutes in groups of four students to fill in a form.

They will have a good chance to cooperate and improve their oral English while discussing with their group members, and they will enjoy teamwork. Young students learn faster and better when they are given the opportunities to demonstrate their understanding and express what they are able to say.

Task three is the further reading. This task is for students to read the passage again and try to find out the changes of Benjamin‟s attitudes towards his father when his father used his particular way to care for him. Students will have a few minutes to hold a discussion fill in the form, so that they can comprehend the article well and self-evaluate how well they understand the passage. By doing the task, students will be clearer about the writer‟s emotional development, from

misunderstanding his father to understanding and even feeling grateful to his father. Thus, teacher can help students form an idea that we should try to learn to understand our father‟s selfless love. Step three: Post-reading activities

Since students have comprehended the text, it‟s time for them to consolidate what they have learned in this period. In the step, I assigned two tasks.

Task one is a task for students to make a dialogue in pairs. Suppose you are Benjamin and his father, what do you want to say to your father? And how will your father react? They are supposed to work in pairs to practice for three minutes. And then I‟ll ask some pairs to present their dialogues.

By doing this task, students can practice their oral English ,enrich their imagination and develop the desire to use English as a means of communication.

Task two is not only the consolidation, but also is an extensive activity for the Students. In this task, students need to work in groups of four to discus the question: When the

misunderstanding appears between you and your father, what will you do to solve the problem? When time is up, I‟ll ask some groups to report. Maybe there will appear some different opinions, but teacher should try to help them know that we should understand father‟s love. No matter what happens, we should communicate with him calmly and reach an agreement in the end. During this part, Students will be glad to use the knowledge they have learnt, and their creative power will be well trained.

Step four: Homework

After class, students are expected to write a letter to their father to express their gratitude towards father‟s love. Maybe they need to refer to some reference books or search some information on the Internet. In this way, students will practice their writing skills and widen their range of their knowledge.

Anyway, the teaching of this lesson aims to develop not only the Ss' language technical abilities, but also the diverse intelligence by integrated teaching methods. As teachers, to make our English classrooms shine with vitality, we are laid with heavy burden, and we still have long way to go.
