The cheongsam ,or Qipao in Chinese, is evolved from a kind of ancient clothing of Manchu ethnic minority. In ancient times, it generally referred to long gowns worn by the people of Manchuria,Mongolia and the Eight-Banner. 旗袍，或用中文拼音表示 Qipao，由满族一种古老的服装演变而来。在古代，它通常指满洲，蒙古和八旗子弟所穿的长袍。

After the topple of the rule of Qing Dynasty in 1911,many customs were no longer existed ,while the female dress of Qipao survived in the political change and ,with later improvements, has become the traditional dress for Chinese women.

在1911年推翻清王朝统治之后，许多的风俗已不再存在，而作为传统女性服饰的旗袍却在这场政治变革中幸存下来，随着后来的改进，已成为中国妇女的传统服饰。

Qipao,simply is just a one-piece dress as normal.It’s most typical feature lies in the collar,slits and the close-fitness.Its enormous variation also is embodied in its embroider,materials and different length and styles.

旗袍，可以把它当做连衣裙。它最典型的特征在于衣领，开叉和它的修身。它的巨大变化主要体现在它的刺绣，材料不同长度和款式。

The Qipao usually is made of excellent materials like silk ,silk brocade,satin,satin brocade or velour. Nearly all colors can be used. Often the Qipao gets a certain pattern,such as Chinese Dragons,different kinds of flowers,butterflies or other typical Chinese icons.

旗袍通常是由优质的材料，如丝绸，锦缎丝绸，缎料，缎织锦或丝绒制作而成。几乎可以使用所有的颜色。通常，旗袍上都会绣有某种图案，如中国龙，不同类型的花，蝴蝶或其他典型的中国图标。

Qipao features strong national flavor and embodies beauty of Chinese traditional costume.It not only represents Chinese female costume but also become a symbol of the oriental traditional costume.
