The Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome coronavirus was first identified in China in 2003.
Intermediate hosts: Bats are the originalhost. Civet cats serve as an important intermediary that carries virus from thewinged mammal to humans.
Incubation period: 2-7 days.
Infection: Virus spread after symptoms show. MERS-CoV
The Middle East Respiratory Syndrome coronavirus was first identified in SaudiArabia in 2012.
Intermediate hosts: MERS-CoV was travelledfrom dromedary camel to humans.
Incubation period: 2-14 days.
Infection: Virus may spread before symptomsshow.

Westlake College in Virginiawill start a laptop computer program that allows students to do schoolwork anywherethey want. Within five years, each of the 1500 students at the college will receivea laptop. The laptops are part of a $10 million computer program at Westlake, a110-year-old college. The students with laptops will also have access to the Internet.In addition, they will be able to use e-mail to “peak” with their teachers,their classmates, and their families. However, the most important part of the laptopprogram is that students will be able to use computers without going to computerlabs. They can work with it at home, in a fast-food restaurant or under the trees—anywhereat all!
Because of the many changesin computer technology, laptop use in higher education, such as colleges and universities,is workable. As laptops become more powerful, they become more similar to desktopcomputers. In addition, the portable computers can connect students to not onlythe Internet, but also libraries and other resources. State higher-education officialsare studying how laptops can help students. State officials are also testing laptopprograms at other universities, too.
At Westlake College, more than60 percent of the staff use computers. The laptops will allow all teachers to usecomputers in their lessons. As one Westlake teacher said, “Here we are in themiddle of Virginia and we’re giving students a window on the world. They can seeeverything and do
