Section A
Directions: In this section, you will hear ten short conversations between two speakers. At the end of each conversation, a question will be asked about what was said. The conversations and the questions will be spoken only once. After you hear a conversation and the question about it, read the four possible answers on your paper, and decide which one is the best answer to the question you have heard.
1. M: Have you finished writing the report for the meeting tomorrow? W: No, I haven't started yet. I'll work on it tonight. Q: What will the woman probably do tonight? [a] Start writing the report. [b] Attend a meeting. [c] Finish her work. [d] Talk with the man.
2. M: How long have you been working at the company? W: It's been almost five years now. Time flies. Q: What do we learn about the woman? [a] She doesn't like her current job.

4. M: I'm thinking of getting a part-time job to earn some extra money. W: That's a good idea. Many students do that nowadays. Q: What do we learn about the man? [a] He intends to work full-time. [b] He prefers studying to working. [c] He needs more money.

5. M: Do you want to go to the movies tonight?
W: I'd love to, but I have to prepare for the test tomorrow. Q: What will the woman probably do tonight?

6. M: I can't believe I missed the last bus. Now I have to walk home. W: Why don't you take a taxi instead?

7. M: The weather forecast says it's going to rain heavily tomorrow. W: Oh no! I was planning to have a picnic. Q: What does the woman mean? [a] She is upset about the rain.

8. M: I've heard that Tom has been promoted. Is that true?
W: Yes, he has always been a hardworking employee. Q: What do we learn about Tom? [a] He was just promoted. [b] He has always been lazy. [c] He has recently changed jobs.
[d] He is known for his strong work ethic. 9. M: Can you pass me the salt, please? W: Sorry, I think we're out of salt. Q: What does the woman mean?

10. M: My parents are coming to visit this weekend. W: That's great news. I'm sure you're excited to see them. Q: What can we infer about the man? [a] His parents live far away.
