London: It‘s well known that Charles Darwin‘s famous theory of evolution (进化) annoyed many people because it was against the Biblical view of creation. But few know that it also created problems for Darwin at home with his deeply religious wife, Emma.
―Darwin held back the publication of On the Origin of Species to avoid offending (触怒) his wife,‖ says Ruth Padel, the naturalist‘s great – great – granddaughter. ―Emma told him that he seemed to be putting God further and further off‖, Padel says in her north London home. ―But they

As the world celebrates the 200th birthday of the man who changed scientific thought forever and the 150 th anniversary of his book today, even his opponents admitted he was a giant figure.
Though opposition to his theory continues, it is the elegant explanation of how species evolutes through natural selection that makes his 200th birthday such a major event.
More than 300 celebrations have been planned in Britain alone, where Darwin's face graces (使增光)the 10-pound bill along with that of Queen Elizabeth II.
Shrewsbury, the central England town where Darwin was born and raised, is holding a month-long festival for its most famous son. Down House, his former home near London, will hold a permanent exhibition recreating some of his most famous experiments.
Many more events have been planned all over the world. What would he be doing if he were alive today? Padel thinks he would properly be studying DNA and the immune system. 21.The main purpose of the author is .

Latest research shows that yawning(打哈欠) helps in keeping the brain cool, which is quite different from the popular belief that yawning promotes sleep and is a sign of tiredness.
Yawning involves opening the mouth while taking a long, deep breath of air. It is commonly believed that people yawn as a result of being sleepy or tired because they need oxygen. However, researchers at the University of Albany in New York said their experiments on 44 students showed that drawing in air helps cool the brain and helps it work more effectively. They said that their experiments showed that raising or lowering oxygen and carbon dioxide levels in the blood did not produce that reaction.
Study participants were shown videos of people laughing and yawning, and researchers counted how many times the volunteers responded to their own ―contagious(传染性的) yawns,‖ reported the online edition of BBC News. The researchers found that those who breathed through the nose rather than the mouth were less likely to yawn when watching a video of other people yawning. This was because the blood vessels(脉管)in the nasal cavity sent cool blood to the brain.
The same effect was found among those who held a cool pack to their forehead, whereas those who held a warm or room-temperature pack yawned while watching the video.

An Agreement
I am a Senior Three student. I often quarrel with my mother over whether I can watch TV after school. My mother holds the view that students in senior three, shouldering heavy loads, are too busy to spare any time to watch TV. It seems to her that' once I am allowed to do that I'll not be able to control myself and forget all about my study. She also thinks that it is bad for my eyes to watch TV too often. But I really can't accept her ideas. I think it a relaxation to watch TV after a day's hard work. Watching TV can not only relax me, but broaden my horizons. Now we've at last reached an agreement that I can only watch TV at weekends, and the programs should be limited to news, programs of entertainment, sports or science.
