The Book Report of Hamlet

“To be, or not to be, that is the question.” It is a very famous sentence before I read Hamlet. At that time, I could not understand what is the meaning of this sentence and I just thought that Hamlet was a very boring story. However, at now, I find that I was wrong. As we know, Hamlet is one of the most well-know tragedies which was written by William Shakespeare, a outstanding playwright in England. Most of us are familiar to him, so I do not want to introduce more things about him. And I like telling something about my feelings after reading.

Hamlet is the hero of William Shakespeare's tragedy who hoped to avenge the murder of his father. At first, I decide to analyze the character--Hamlet. In fact,there are a thousand a Hamlets in a thousand people’s eyes. So no one can say that he understand the real Hamlet.On the one hand, maybe many people think that he is a spoiled child. He just do whatever he like and does not care about the opinions of other people. When he fells in love with Ophelia, he can write love poems for her everyday. However, when he decides to revenge for his father, he gives up his love firmly. On the other hand, he is a hero who has very strong will and responsibility. He can abandon all the thing in order to kill his uncle including his lover and life. Somebody think that he is reckless and stupid. But I think it is his charm.

When I ask my friend for their opinions about Hamlet, many of them tell me that they could not understand this tragedy correctly because we are so young that we do not have enough life experience. Nevertheless, a Japanese director who had directed stage play of Hamlet for many times and made success said: “Only young can understand and portray Hamlet, because Hamlet is a child who has never grown up. ”I really agree with him.As we know, Hamlet has Oedipus complex, and it is very strange that a adult always relies on his mother. In my personal view, Hamlet is a naive child. Although he lives in royal family, he has not sullied by hanky-panky.

Firstly, he doesn’t think of the truth of his father’s death. And then, when he is dueling with Laertes, he also believes that it is a fair duel. In this book, we can find that Hamlet always believe in everybody unless he has the evidence that they betray him. The most impressive scene for me is the ending of this book, when Hamlet has killed his uncle, he forgives Laertes and said: “Heaven make thee free of it, I follow thee.” At the end of his life, he just pays more attention to his friend’s death rather than his own destiny. In my heart, Hamlet is as pure as his mother’s pearl. And it’s not his fault, but the world. He is a child who needs to be taken good tare of. So I cannot imagine that if Hamlet is a person who always thinks of how to reckon others. If the condition allows, I wish Hamlet can live as a child forever.

However, although I admire Hamlet’s character, I do not agree with his behavior. As a matter of fact, I think he is too obtrusive to thinking of the situation. In my opinion, Hamlet is the only prince of this country and he will become the king one day, so it is meaningless for him to overthrow his uncle. If he came to power, he could do everything he wants including debunk his uncle’s real face. Maybe someone think it is a very nasty behavior, but I feel that it is the most suitable method at that kind of situation. Besides, he can also adopt some insidious ways. For example, he can wait for a right time and put poison in his uncle’s food. Although this way is not fair and square, it is the best way that can protect himself. But he doesn’t do these, he choose the most direct way to deal with this problem. From this, we can feel that Hamlet is a straight shooter. In the meanwhile, we can also find the boundedness in that time. Most people cared too much about their fame and status. I think if Hamlet can give up his dignity, he will not lose his life finally.

Nowadays, there are many teenagers have a symptom which is named Sparkling Daydream.And I think Hamlet is a person who has such kind of symptom because he always cynical and thinks of things in a negative way. The most impressive words is at the end of act I,when he heard of the truth from the ghost, he said “The time is out of joint;O cursed spite,That ever I was born to set it right.” In her mind, he is the savior of this world. So he decides to punish his uncle by his own hands

instead of asking his friends’ help.I want to praise his braveness but I don’t agree with his impolitic action.I think his sacrifice is meaningless.

Indeed, Hamlet is not a perfect person. He is a epitome of his time and all the characters in this book are thespian such as Laertes and Ophelia. And in my eyes, the women play the most tragic role in this drama. When Hamlet’s father died, his mother has to marry his uncle. However,every body just says that the queen is attracted by New King but no one knows her true minds. And as for Ophelia, she is miserable than the queen. She is beautiful and educated and she will became a happy girl if she did not meet Hamlet.When she faced the question about “to be or not to be”,she chose the latter one. In the end,She decides to leave the world which brings too much sorrow to her.Although she loses her life, she will gain happiness in the heaven. I believe that when she sank in the river, she felt very quiet than before and it is the best result for her.

Honestly speaking, I cannot understand that why Hamlet treat Ophelia cruelly. I know that he has more important thing to do, but he can use more soft way to refuse her instead of saying “get thee to a nunnery.” It is a disgrace for the girl at that time. And the biggest fault that Hamlet has is killing Ophelia’s father. No matter how terrible he is, he is Hamlet’s lover’s father and he has to care about her mood. Nevertheless, he doesn’t. So I think the women in this book don’t have

the rights that they need.

Someone said that the story of Hamlet is too far-fetched because there is impossible that all the characters died. But that is precisely the reality. The story shows a group of people who fight against the fate to us. They try to change their fate, as a result,they get nothing and lose their lives. And they try to restore the past. However, their progress are useless.In fact,we can find this kind of helpless situation from everybody around us. The tragedy of Hamlet type with us all the time.No can escape from it.

Mr Lu Xun said “Tragedy is to destroy the valuable thing in our lives to the people.” And Shakespeare had done this. In this book, every valuable thing has been destroyed in different reasons such as Hamlet’s happy family, his beautiful love and his precious friendship. Every person will sympathize Hamlet’s encounter while thay enjoy in such unique story. I have ever heard of a motto “The world is not beautiful, but it is beautiful because of this.” People always like the thing which is imperfect such as Venus de Milo.So we can say that Hamlet is a successful classic because it’s tragic. After reading, I begin to think about my own destiny. Which kind of existence that fate is? I have no ides. It is shadow that accompany us all the time; it is just like sunshine which can warm our heart.But more often, it is as horrible as nightmare. We can do nothing except receiving our fate.
